Just like other kinds of property, intellectual property needs to be protected from unauthorized use. There are four ways to protect different types of intellectual property:

Works Made for Hire
There is an important exception to the principle that you own all the copyright rights in a work you create. If you are an employee, and what you create is done as a part of your employment, then your employer, not you, owns all the rights. That is a consequence of the "works made for hire" doctrine in copyright law.

About Intellectual Property

Intellectual property relates to laws and concepts that affect the right to own and profit from artistic, scientific and technological creation. Copyright, trademarks and patents are all covered under the concept of intellectual property. Plagiarism is the act of utilizing or claiming creative content as one's own and, thus, also related to intellectual property.
