Political Science: Home

A basic guide to assist political science students in locating resources.

Library of Congress Classification

Page Library uses the Library of Congress (LC) classification system to organize books by specific subjects.  The LC system uses an alphanumeric system that looks like this: "A 253 .B52 1997". To find books related to your topic, first search Arthur, the Page Library catalog. By doing a Subject or Keyword search you will find a variety of titles that relate to your topic, but a Keyword search may not give you sources directly related to your chosen search terms. If you know the title of the source you are looking for, you could opt for the Exact Title search to save yourself some time.

Many sources related to Civil Engineering will be located downstairs (in the general collection) in the section: J.

You could also find a number of good resources in the reference collection and print journals (located on the main floor and upstairs), and in the Government Documents section upstairs.

Libguides

These are guides that contain listings of recommended resources for finding information, such as databases, journals, books, web pages and other useful resources most relevant to your area of study. They also provide access to a range of learning tools, for example, interactive tutorials.

LibAnswers

A reference (ask the librarians) platform with a built-in knowledge base. Users may search the knowledge base of answered questions and the auto-suggest feature points them to the right answer before they even finish typing their question. If they can’t find what they need users can submit their own questions, so the knowledge base grows as new questions are answered.
